E’Darius “Big E” Green signs with East Mississippi Community College

E’Darius Green is a Senior at Adams County Christian School (ACCS), his parents are Lawrence Abraham of Cecilia, LA and Crystal Y Green of Natchez, MS.  E’Darius started his sports journey in Pee-wee basketball at the age of five. At the age of nine, his mother finally gave in and allowed him to play football also. He continued every year until he was old enough to try out for school sports. While E’Darius played both basketball and football, he had a natural love for football. Green left Robert Lewis Magnet Middle School as a two-time undefeated football champion. While at his eighth-grade sports banquet he was called by his middle school coach “the strongest kid in the district”.  During his eight-grade summer, E’Darius and his parents had a tough decision to make about his future, “would he continue in the Natchez Adams School District or be open to other possibilities for high school?” E’Darius said his family ultimately agreed ACCS seemed to be the right fit for him. Even though Green has had great athletic accomplishments on the field and court, he is equally as great in academics.  E’Darius is a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club. Let’s see what the 6’4, 303 lbs football Center “Big E” has to say about his journey in sports and life.

NL&S:  How’s it going E, is it ok if I call you E?

E’Darius: I’m good, thanks. Yes, E is ok.

NL&S: How do you feel about signing with East Mississippi CC?

E’Darius: I feel good about it. I got familiar with them when a couple of my older brother’s friends,  (Shavoke’ Herrington & EJ Woods) from Natchez went there.

NL&S:  What made you go with EMCC, were there other offers?

E’Darius: Because they win. Yeah, there were other offers and I appreciated all of them. EMMC just felt like a good fit for me with academics and sports.

NL&S:  You’ve made some nice accomplishments on and off the field. How do you keep those grades up? Also, tell me about the ESPN COMBINE and how that transpired?

E’Darius: School was always easy; my family always made my brother and I know that “student” came first in Student-Athlete.  My grandmother is a retired school teacher, my mom researches EVERYTHING (grinning), it’s like she has to know the origin of everything. I guess it’s just kind of natural.  As for the combine, I had a support system of guys from Natchez that live in Houston. They remembered me from little league sports up through middle school. They called my parents about the combine; we went out to Houston, and I was named MVP for the lineman 9th-12th graders.

NL&S: What grade were you then?

E’Darius: Tenth grade.

NL&S: You play basketball and football, how did you get into sports and how did football become your favorite?

E’Darius: I guess it was just “for” me, I grew up around it.  It was on the TV in our house a lot. I watched my older brother E’Daniel play both sports from little league till he graduated. When I was old enough, my mom signed me up. I like basketball, but football is my zone.  It’s nothing like being on that field and physically moving another man against his will. Maybe, my brother was the “sports” prophecy in our house, and I came to fulfill it (E, grinned and hunched his shoulders).

NL&S:  Wow, that’s deep. How did you feel about separating from that champion squad you were apart of in middle school?

E”Darius: I don’t feel anyway about it. We were the class of ’23 and we still are. I think people saw our greatness together and wanted to keep us all together, but that’s not life. Look at us, we’re still great. I’m just proud to be a part of the class of ’23, our middle school “squad” all are blessed to be playing next level football. I’m happy for us.

NL&S: Sounds like you have a good way at looking at things, where did that come from, and what’s next for E’Darius?

E’Darius: I just believe in God; I believe in myself. The next thing for E’Darius is getting out of here and getting a workout in (laughing sarcastically).

NL&S: (laughing also), I mean the next big thing?

E’Darius: The next “big” thing comes from all the little things, like this workout I’m about to get in.

NL&S: Big E, it has been a pleasure chatting with you and I am so proud of you!

E’Darius: Thanks.

As we shook hands and parted ways, I was enthralled and proud. E’darius has been named All-Metro player since his sophomore year.  He was named and played in the MAIS All-Star games for both football and basketball, academic scholar, and humble. Green has a laid-back demeanor despite his successes. I asked him how he stays so centered and nonchalant, he answered in true E’Darius nature, “I don’t let my wins or my loses go to my head”.
